Rev. Carol Hancock is seen leading the CJUC UCW-sponsored  Annual “Daybreak”on Feb. 1, 2003  at the Momiji Seniors’ Centre. The theme was “A Retreat for Refreshment and Delight”.
Text Box:    The UCW started the New Year on January 12th with a general meeting followed by a video, presented by Eiko and Sab Yoshioka  of their recent trip to Scandinavia, complete with commentary, books, maps and artefacts.

   On February 1st, we held our annual Daybreak at Momiji Centre. Rev. Carol Hancock, wife of Rev. Steve Willey, led us in a day of reflection and method of spiritual practices so that we can continue to gain God’s comfort and grace. Fifty-two ladies attended and a delicious lunch was provided by the East-end ladies.

   At our March meeting on the 9th, our guest speaker was the Rev. M.J. Perry, former chair of the Board of Massey Centre. She spoke to us about the beginnings of Massey Centre up to the present time, providing services for young mothers and children and mentioned there has been a continually growing need for this service.

   The Momiji Bazaar  was held on March 29th, with Eiko Watanabe as our co-ordinator. Several bees were held in order to produce 200 rolls of maki sushi. Thanks to Irene Kagawa and Kim Sakauye and the ladies for their dedicated efforts. As well , over 40 bottles of Hawaiian Zuke were made for sale at the Bazaar. Thanks also to Kay Uyeda and her helpers for the two karinto workbees, and we are grateful to our ladies who helped in many departments at the Bazaar, i.e. chow mein, white elephant, etc.

   April 2nd, the Toronto West Presbytery UCW held its annual meeting at St. Luke’s U.C. and Text Box: the theme was “Children - Is Anyone Listening?” Five members attended.

   On Sunday, April 6th, we will have a concert with Karen and Ruth Calder, entitled “Two Women and a Piano” in the main santuary of the church. The proceeds will go to the “Beads of Hope” campaign.

   On May 3rd, the annual JCCC Bazaar will be held  at the Centre from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Naomi Takasaki will organize the making of chow mein for the Bazaar. 

   On Sunday, May 11th, we will have our annual Mother’s Day Tea with Eileen Ogura in charge.

   Our Wind-up dinner and programme will be held on Friday evening, June 6th.
