Mission Statement
We are a diverse and inclusive Christian congregation seeking to follow
in the way of Jesus Christ with all who yearn for a loving, compassionate,
justice-making community.
Centennial-Japanese United Church is one of several thousand churches of the United Church of Canada. It was formed in 1986 by the amalgamation of Toronto Japanese United Church (Nisei Congregation) and Centennial United Church. CJUC and the Toronto Japanese United Church are tenants in the building of Lansing United Church.
CJUC is a member of Toronto Don Valley Presbytery (a cluster of churches located in north-central Toronto). This presbytery is part of Toronto Conference (a larger grouping of churches in the Greater Toronto area stretching north beyond Barrie, Ontario).
CJUC is also a member of the Ethnic Ministries Council of the United Church of Canada. This council is a division of the head office of the United Church of Canada and a grouping of ethnically diverse congregations spread across the country.
CJUC is also one of the churches formerly belonging to the National Japanese United Church Conference known in Japanese as Kyogikai. This is an organization of Japanese United Churches across Canada including congregations in: Montreal PQ, Toronto ON, Hamilton ON, Winnipeg MB, Calgary AB, Lethbridge AB, Kelowna BC, Surrey BC, Vancouver BC, Richmond BC.
CJUC also formerly belonged to the Renraku-kai, which is an informal association of Japanese Christian Churches in the Toronto area.
